AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State defensive lineman David Irving has been suspended indefinitely after being arrested following a large crowd disturbance in Ames on Tuesday night. Ames police have charged Irving with criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and fifth-degree theft. Police Commander Geoff Huff tells The Associated Press that pictures and video that appeared to show Irving holding an uprooted stop sign during the late-night disturbance helped lead to his arrest. Huff says the 20-year-old Irving turned himself in Friday. It's unclear if Irving has hired a lawyer. Irving was expected to be a key part of Iowa State's defensive line after making eight starts in 2013. But his suspension and the recent dismissal of fellow starter Rodney Coe leaves the line in flux.
