Tim DeRuyter has a new five-year contract to remain coach of the Fresno State Bulldogs through 2018, the team confirmed Monday.
The deal is worth $7.5 million in base salary -- between $1.4 and $1.6 million per season with an opportunity to earn between $500,000 to $700,000 a year in performance bonuses.
DeRuyter, 51, averaged $650,000 the past two seasons and had three years remaining on his previous deal.
DeRuyter, who was the former defensive coordinator at Texas A&M, has led the Bulldogs to a 20-6 record in his two seasons, including an 11-2 mark in 2013. Fresno State also has gone 14-2 in the Mountain West Conference under his watch.
Led by quarterback Derek Carr, the Bulldogs were on the verge of being a BCS buster and not only tied the school record for most wins, but they also captured the first-ever MWC title game and had one of the top passing offenses in the country.
"They had a heck of a run until this point," DeRuyter said after the Bulldogs' 45-20 loss to the USC Trojans in the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl.
