Scumbag. Why even make any of these kids go to classes? Money is obviously the only thing on their minds.

"David Batson, A&M director of athletic compliance, said the sale of shirts does not endanger Manziel's eligibility, but it jeopardizes his trademark "Johnny Football." 112 Days ago

Your A&M official stated otherwise, months ago, when he must not have known better :)

Source? I have another A&M official stating otherwise:
The NCAA is very clear, said Shane Hinckley, an assistant vice president in Texas A&Ms business development office. A players name, image, likeness or nickname cannot be used by the institution or by a private individual to sell merchandise.
If that Texas investment group actually started selling Johnny Football shirts at $20 a pop, quarterback Johnny Manziel -- even if he doesnt collect a dime -- could lose his college eligibility and have to quit the team. So the schools involvement is as much about self-preservation as it is anything else."

Pete Rose had the nickname "Charlie Hustle" and he's one of the all time great players and $@%*&^%$ of MLB. See if Johnny Fball follows suit. He has all the makings. 112 Days ago

He better worry more about his scrambling skills since two of starting OL went to the draft.

The kid won a Heisman, he is taking online classes so that his "celebrity" doesn't have a negative effect on his student peers and he doesn't want to spend his days on campus signing autographs. maybe if some of you had some success in life instead of being loser than you would understand. As far as infringement on his nickname that is complete $@%!$@%! but its his right. All the other Johnny's didnt win Heismans as Redshirt Freshmans and some of them didnt even win Hesimans period. Please get off this kids NUTS and let him live... The SEC wasnt ready and he shined. BTW ESPN this is a horrible post and story to cover "if you have no revelent news to report than dont report anything" 113 Days ago

Elgibility does not really matter, this kid is fast-tracking the NCAA process to get into the show. Just like Scam Newton, except the payday comes to him direct and in the middle or end of the college run rather than up-front. 112 Days ago

he could lose his eligibility due to unauthorized Johnny Manziel merchandise....even the HeisManziel merchandise. Johnny Football merchandise, which he does not own a trademark for and has been used long before he was around, could not cause him to lose his eligibility. 112 Days ago
ThanksForTheRide
Unauthorized merchandises that have student-athletes' nicknames on them have been pulled off the shelf before. I'd think it's up to the judge to decide whether a nickname falls in the category of likeness or whatever. If I were a student athlete (or a merchandise maker) I'm not sure if I'd take that risk. 112 Days ago

it's more than trademark infringement. He could lose his eligibility because of unauthorized merchandise. 112 Days ago
