The boy known as Victim 1 in the Penn State sex abuse scandal blames Joe Paterno and the university administrators found to have concealed Jerry Sandusky's criminal behavior for the repeated molestat... Read full story
This is the mother who sent her kid over to Jerry's house 100+ times against his will so he "wouldn't ruin her weekend." The one who told the entire Lock Haven area that she was going to be rich and buy a house in the country where her dogs could run free. The one who authored a book on the situation. Who has other victims congratulating her on her facebook wall on all the new things she's bought. If it was about privacy and her son's well being, she wouldn't be thrusting herself into the public. Pinning this on Joe Paterno? Her son's high school was letting Jerry Sandusky pull her kid out of class. Did she sue them? Nope. 213 Days ago

First of all I feel terrible for the victims, but I feel like Joe Paterno is being used as a scapegoat because of the fact that the Freeh Report and everyone else can just sit here and attack him without him being able to explain, defend, or do whatever he could to at least try and explain his situation to the world. Don't get me wrong, he deserves some blame in all of this, but everyone it seems like is saying what he did is worse than what Sandusky did by putting so much emphasis on Joe Pa and no one else. Furthermore the NCAA shouldn't have done anything about this, because their jurisdiction involves teams gaining a competitive advantage due to illegal activity. There was no competitive advantage gained by any of this. The NCAA also now by producing a bowl ban among other penalties are penalizing current Penn State players and coaches who are in no way, shape, or form involved in any part of what has happened, so to me they are being a monster as well to the innocent student athletes that are currently at the university. 300 Days ago

Victims mother filled with hatred......Hey Lady, Didn't you think it odd, that an old man was hanging out with your fatherless son all the time? That your son went to sleepovers at his house? That your son wouldn't talk to you about what him and Mr. Sandusky would do for fun? That your son was on mental shut down when he came home all the time? You should be mad at yourself lady. 308 Days ago

You people are fools if you believe that Joe Paterno's so called power to "run the university" is a unique situation. It's big time college sports. You don't think people like Jim Tressel, Pete Carroll, Nick Saban, etc. have just as much pull at their university as Paterno? Lashing out at Penn State calling its fan base a cult is pure hypocrisy. Obviously this is a horrble situation and Paterno didn't do enough but neither did the countless others who were involved with this whole mess since 1998. Too bad no one will buy that story and the people want their scape-goat. 308 Days ago

Not looking for a scape-goat, just trying to find the guilty parties and see that justice is done for Sandusky's innocent victims. 305 Days ago

I really find it hard to believe that Penn st fans refuse to admit jp was wrong, and the football program needs disciplined. I think this is the same attitude that let this happen we are Penn St and were untouchable, well unless your a kid then its open season. 309 Days ago

Because the victims need to see they are more important than football. The actions of PSU and the push to protect the program and the legacy would suggest nothing has changed. Footbal is still more important than this kid. 308 Days ago

Why does the football program need disciplined? most of the coaches and all the student athletes were not even at the school during the times of abuse. This is a legal matter and should be dealt to accordingly. If any action is to be taken against the university it should not be from the NCAA but from a prosecutor. 308 Days ago

I don't know of many PSU fans who feel the way you say they do. Most think Paterno was wrong and all those involved were fired or released. You have to take into account how the discipline will effect those who had nothing to do with it. Giving back championship trophies, giving up bowl eligibility for a few years or paying settlements are all possible. "Death penalty" is unlikely. 309 Days ago

just as there were other victims besides those in the latest Sandusy Trial, there Were other coverups on different Issues besides the Sandusky Cover up at PSU.
Joe Controlled all, even hiring the AD ( a former PSU FB player, Curle ) that worked for Joe , not the other way around . 309 Days ago

The failure to report by Paterno, Curley, Schultz and Spanier is typical rape case denial in which those close to the offender are unable to believe he's guilty. That doesn't excuse them of their responsibility but it is a common thing in these cases. The worst offender are those who witness it first hand because it's nearly impossible for them to deny what they saw. For all their claimed meagerness the Janitor in 2001 and McQueary are the worst of the group because they knew for sure what they saw. They had no less power nor no less responsibility to report what they saw to the police and yet they are treated with kid gloves by the media and public. I've seen rape and how even the parents of the victim can be in denial but the witnesses, they can't deny what they saw. 309 Days ago

This rhetoric is media hype. A victim of molestation myself, I cannot see how this is going to resolve anything. Paterno was not the one who committed the crime. Paterno did not "cover-up" anything. He was a man from an era where these taboo social topics were not discussed, and were not dealt with in the public eye. Paterno hired a man that blended into society and was allowed to live there. Sandusky was a married man that had foster kids. He hid it well. If we blame Paterno, and PSU administration, then we also condemn the same government officials that handed those foster children over to the Sanduskys. And yet ESPN is sensationalizing this story to whip everyone into a frenzy. I believe that it is good to get the information in the open, but the coverage has lasted months. ESPN rests on their principal "we are just giving the viewers what they want". PSU needs to heal. PSU needs to move on. Furthermore the community who is only guilty of ignorance needs to move on. Blaming Paterno will not help this victim or the others heal. The mother of the victim should be helping the victim heal. Therapy, time, and more time is what these victims needs. It will never go away, but he has to live with what has happened. We can help by leaving it alone and allowing them to move on. ESPN continues the coverage to boost their ratings and profit off of the tragedy. This to me is just like committing the crime that Sandusky did, raping these victims emotionally again and again. Everywhere the victim turns it is in the media, and on every street corner, every conversation, it would be like living it over and over again. My heart goes out to the victims and I request that ESPN leave this alone for the victims sake. Ban it from your coverage moving forward. The information is out there. Great job uncovering this awful situation. But, let it die. Let these victims heal. Anger, outrage, and hatred will not help these victims in anyway. In order to prevent more harm let it go. 309 Days ago

I wasn't a victim but I witnessed rape. I know the amount of denial that the people around you had and I know how the anger doesn't fix anything. Once the offender is revealed to everyone and punished then healing can begin and it often starts with forgiving. Because you were let down by alot of people and those were good people nonetheless. If more people only understood this they would stop frothing at the mouth and start forgiving so that the victims can too and only then can they heal their hearts. Forgive but never forget. 309 Days ago

I know exactly what you mean and probably have some similar emotions going on. Something else that bothers me is how people continually say it ruined the victims lives. As a victim as well, I'd say what happened to me was really messed up, but my life is not ruined and has been fantastic. I am not a broken person. 309 Days ago
