Colorado State transfer John Gillon says he's Syracuse-bound

Syracuse has landed Colorado State graduate transfer John Gillon, he told ESPN.

"I chose them because I felt like Syracuse checks all the boxes for someone who wants a great basketball career," Gillon said.

Gillon, a 6-foot point guard, took a visit to the Syracuse campus this weekend. Texas A&M and Oklahoma were his other finalists.

Gillon became one of the most sought-after immediately eligible transfers when it was announced last week that he was leaving the Rams. He averaged 13.2 points and 3.8 assists last season for Colorado State.

Coach Jim Boeheim and Syracuse made it clear they were looking to add a point guard this spring. The Orange were involved with Columbia graduate transfer Grant Mullins before he committed to California last week, and they also were showing interest in Michigan graduate transfer Spike Albrecht.

Syracuse lost its starting backcourt of Michael Gbinije and Trevor Cooney, both seniors, and also saw sophomore guard Kaleb Joseph transfer to Creighton. Franklin Howard and ESPN 100 recruit Tyus Battle were the only guards on the roster before Gillon's commitment.
