Mark Fox signs five-year contract to stay at Georgia

Men's College Basketball, Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia Bulldogs coach Mark Fox has signed a five-year deal to remain in Athens.

"I'm really thankful to the administration," Fox told ESPN. "Georgia has become my home, and I'm really hopeful that this can be my home forever."

Fox previously had three years remaining on his contract. This deal will extend through the 2019-20 season and will pay him $2 million annually in addition to a $150,000 per year longevity bonus, which he would collect at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

"Mark and I discussed an extension following the season," Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity said in a statement. "I am very pleased the Board approved the extension today, and we are very appreciative of the leadership Mark provides to our basketball program. Mark continues to build on the solid foundation he has established as our head coach."

This past season, Fox took Georgia to the NCAA tournament for the second time in his tenure. The core of that team is returning, including senior guards Charles Mann and Kenny GainesĀ and talented sophomore big man Yante Maten.

Fox, 46, is 106-89 in six seasons since taking over, and the Bulldogs have won 23 SEC games over the past two seasons.
