Kris Dunn forgoes NBA draft, returns to Providence

Men's College Basketball, NBA Draft, Providence Friars

Providence point guard Kris Dunn is returning for his junior season despite being considered a lock first-round pick by most NBA executives, the school announced Friday.

The 6-foot-3 Dunn averaged 15.6 points, 7.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds this past season for a Friars team that made the NCAA tournament. Coach Ed Cooley will lose leading scorer LaDontae Henton to graduation, and Tyler Harris is transferring, but Dunn will make sure that Providence has a shot to return to the NCAA tourney.

Several NBA executives told ESPN that they thought Dunn could have moved up into the lottery with strong workouts due to his length, athleticism and ability to defend. His shooting and decision-making needs to improve, but he did shoot a respectable 35 percent from beyond the arc this past year.

Yahoo! Sports first reported that Dunn would be returning to school.
