Ricky Tarrant to transfer to Memphis

Memphis added a potential missing piece for next season, with Alabama transfer Ricky Tarrant committing to the Tigers.

Tarrant will graduate from Alabama and be eligible immediately next season for the Tigers. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 13.1 points and 2.0 assists in 19 games this past season.

"Great players coming back, so I think we have a good opportunity to make the NCAA tournament," Tarrant told ESPN.com of Memphis. "Fans here are great and it's a basketball city, and I felt comfortable here on my visit. Coach [Josh] Pastner and his coaching staff did a great job of recruiting me."

Memphis brings back its top four scorers from last season, including the inside tandem of Austin Nichols and Shaq Goodwin. Pastner also adds ESPN 100 recruits Dedric Lawson (No. 26) and K.J. Lawson (No. 44), while Tarrant gives the Tigers the scoring point guard they were lacking this past season.

Tarrant missed the last two months of the season after suffering a ruptured plantar fascia against Florida in January, and he also needed surgery on his left knee.

Alabama parted ways with coach Anthony Grant after the SEC tournament, replacing him with Avery Johnson.
