Butler has given men's basketball coach Chris Holtmann a contract extension after he led the Bulldogs to the NCAA tournament's second round in his first season.
The deal was announced Monday by athletic director Barry Collier. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Neal's new deal runs through the 2020-21 season.
"Under challenging circumstances, Chris Holtmann stepped in this past season and quickly demonstrated himself worthy of continuing the Butler legacy of excellent coaching and thoughtful leadership, including Barry Collier, that has underpinned Butler's success," Butler president James Danko said in a statement. "I am delighted that Chris is committed to coaching Butler for many years to come."
Holtmann replaced Brandon Miller last fall after Miller took a medical leave for undisclosed reasons. When Miller did not return in January, the school removed the interim tag from Holtmann's title.
The 43-year-old former Gardner-Webb coach helped Butler rebound from a 14-17 mark in 2013-14 to 23-11, a second-place finish in the Big East and an NCAA Tournament victory in the round of 64. The Bulldogs came up just short against Notre Dame in the round of 32, losing in overtime.
