Danny Hurley, URI agree to new deal

Rhode Island coach Danny Hurley has agreed to a six-year deal with the Rams that likely will eliminate him from contention for the vacant St. John's job, sources told ESPN.

Hurley has spent the past three seasons at Rhode Island, coaching the Rams to the NIT this past season. URI likely will be among the preseason favorites to win the A-10 next season.

The Rams have gone 45-49, including 23-10, in their three seasons under Hurley. He had been considered a candidate at St. John's, which parted ways with Steve Lavin earlier this week.

Prior to landing at URI, Hurley was 38-23 in two seasons at Wagner.

Hurley is the brother of Buffalo coach Bobby Hurley and also the son of legendary high school coach Bob Hurley.
