Indiana slips to No. 9 seed

Insider Men's College Basketball

This edition of Bracket Math includes games through Wednesday, Feb. 25. Rankings reflect an up-to-date seed list from yours truly, posing as one hypothetical member of the NCAA men's basketball committee.

Indiana's loss at Northwestern on Wednesday night dropped the Hoosiers to 4-6 in their past 10 games. It also dropped Tom Crean's team to a No. 9 seed.

Our first bracket of the month had the Hoosiers solidly in the field as a No. 6 seed, but February struggles have moved IU down the S-Curve, depicted below. There's no real danger for the Hoosiers yet, but their staying power in the tournament is very much in question.

Others that fell after Wednesday night losses were VCU (from a No. 5 to a No. 6 after losing to Richmond in double overtime) and Ole Miss (from a No. 7 to a No. 8 after losing to Georgia).

Positive movers included two in the Big 12. Baylor defeated Iowa State to move up a line to a No. 4, and West Virginia went from a No. 6 to a No. 5 following a win over Texas on Tuesday. In the crowded Big Ten, Iowa took down Illinois and jumped from a No. 10 to a No. 9.
