Big 12 door open for Longhorns

Insider Men's College Basketball, Texas Longhorns

When your head coach opens his postgame news conference by wishing his water bottle were filled with something a little more robust, that's generally a good sign that your team has issues. Sure enough, Kansas has triggered much talk with its dismal 72-40 showing against Kentucky in Indianapolis this week. It is said that maybe -- just maybe -- the Big 12's longtime king is finally dead.

Indeed, even before the Jayhawks came up 32 points short against UK, my colleague Jeff Goodman was already on the record saying he expected Kansas' incredible streak of 10 consecutive league titles will end this season and that Texas will win the Big 12 regular-season championship.

Is Goodman right? As luck would have it, I think we're about to get a much better grip on an answer. With the Longhorns about to meet Iowa at Madison Square Garden, we'll soon get our first good look at Rick Barnes' team. Here's what we think we know about the Horns in November, and what I'll be watching for from this team not only against the Hawkeyes but all season long.
