The Atlantic 10 will put its men's basketball tournament in Pittsburgh's Consol Energy Center in 2017 and Washington D.C.'s Verizon Center in 2018, it was announced Thursday.
The A-10, which will announce the moves Thursday, had to find an alternative site for its conference tournament once the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., cut a deal with the ACC to host its men's tournament in 2017 and '18.
The A-10 tournament will be at the Barclays in 2015 and '16 and then again in 2019, 2020 and 2021 after the stints in Pittsburgh and D.C.
The ACC and the A-10 agreed to play one doubleheader a year between the two leagues with teams to be determined in 2015, '16 and '17 at the Barclays Center in exchange for the A-10 vacating two years at the arena so the ACC could hosts its tournament. The A-10 will also have a spot in the annual Brooklyn Hoops event at the Barclays Center.
The Verizon Center is fast becoming a coveted destination for conference tournaments by hosting the ACC in 2016, the Big 10 in 2017 and now the A-10 in 2018.
The A-10 has a member in Pittsburgh in Duquesne and member schools in D.C. in George Washington and nearby in George Mason, Richmond and VCU.
