Bracket Odds

No matter how you slice it, there are going to be more teams competing for the last few NCAA at-large positions than there are spots available. All of which means it won't be long before NCAA men's basketball committee members -- and those of us charged with replicating their process -- begin looking for ways to eliminate some of the bubble teams in order to better focus on those legitimately in the hunt.

So let's save everyone a little time and suggest who some of the "first-eliminated" teams will be (and why).

Baylor Bears

The Bears suffered a truly crushing home loss to West Virginia on Tuesday. It's not that the Mountaineers are terrible, it's that Baylor has now dropped five straight Big 12 games (including three at home) to fall to 1-6 in the conference. With three of their next four coming on the road, how likely are the Bears to turn things around toward the nine or 10 conference victories needed for realistic at-large consideration?
