RICHMOND, Ky. -- Jarelle Reischel scored a career-high 21 points and JaVontae Hawkins added 19 with five assists to help Eastern Kentucky beat Coppin State 107-80 in the season opener for both teams Friday night.
Ja'Mill Powell finished with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, Greg King scored 11 and Nick Mayo had 10 points with three blocked shots for Eastern Kentucky.
Reischel opened the second half with a 3, and then took a steal coast-to-coast for a dunk, sparking a 13-2 run and extending Eastern Kentucky's lead to 62-41 with 17 minutes left. Coppin State trailed by at least 17 the rest of the way.
Christian Kessee led the Eagles with 18 points. James Sylvester scored 17 with eight rebounds and Terry Harris Jr. added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Eastern Kentucky made 40 of 74 (53.3 percent) field goals and forced 20 Coppin State turnovers.
