OGDEN, Utah -- Chris Smith scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Utah State to a 73-70 win over Weber State in a season opener on Friday night.

Smith was 7 of 12 from the field including 4 of 5 from distance for the Aggies. Lew Evans had 17 points and five rebounds and Shane Rector added 15 points and five assists.

Weber State took an early lead in the first half but Smith sank a 3-pointer midway and followed it up with a pair of layups to put Utah State on top 21-18 with 7:33 to go in the first half. The Aggies led 35-32 at halftime.

Weber State mounted a 9-2 run midway through the second half to take a 58-54 lead with 8:38 to play. The Aggies went ahead for good on an Elston Jones layup with 6:29 left.

Joel Bolomboy led the Wildcats with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
