NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Jacob Parker and Thomas Walkup combined for 27 points to lead Stephen F. Austin to 75-49 season-opening victory over Mississippi College on Friday night.
Parker scored 14 points, and Walkup, who had 13 points, pulled down 11 rebounds. Dallas Cameron, who made 3 of 5 3-pointers, added 11 points.
SFA, which never trailed, held a 45-21 lead at the half. The Choctaws did close to 51-32 following a Jade Case layup with 11:48 remaining, but Clide Geffrard made two free throws and Bobby King hit a jumper to extend the lead to 55-32. The Lumberjacks then had a 6-0 run to led 61-33 and coasted to the win.
Johnny Rucker led the Choctaws with 14 points.
SFA, the defending Southland Conference champs, pulled down 16 offensive rebounds, while limiting the Choctaws to seven. The Lumberjacks outrebounded Mississippi College 40 to 31.
