FAIRFAX, Va. -- Shonn Miller and Robert Hatter each scored 21 points, and Miller added 13 rebounds, as Cornell defeated George Mason 68-60 in the season opener for both teams on Friday night.

Cornell, which won only two games last season and just one against a Division I foe, dominated George Mason on defense, holding the Patriots to 31-percent shooting, connecting on just six of their first 25 shots. George Mason closed to trail just 34-31 at the break, however.

Miller opened the second half with a 3, David Onuorah added a dunk and a Devin Cherry a layup to boost the lead to 10 in less than three minutes. Cornell led by 10 or more most of the second half.

Cherry added nine points, 10 boards and seven assists for Big Red.

Patrick Holloway led George Mason with 22 points on 7-of-18 shooting, and Jalen Jenkins added 10.
