WASHINGTON -- Myles Davis scored 19 points in his third start of the season, and Xavier held No. 21 Georgetown without a field goal for more than 11 minutes in the first half Tuesday night in a 66-53 victory that completed a sweep of the Hoyas.
Davis went 6 for 9 from the field, including back-to-back 3-pointers to cap an 18-4 run in which the Musketeers totally shut down Georgetown's motion offense. Aaron Bowen made a layup with 11:17 remaining in the first half, and the Hoyas didn't make another field goal until Isaac Copeland's mid-range buzzer-beater made the score 29-16 at halftime.
Georgetown got as close as seven late in the second half, but the Hoyas went cold again -- going more than three minutes without a field goal -- as Xavier (14-7, 5-4 Big East) closed with a 12-6 run to snap a five-game road losing streak.
D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored 13 points, and Jabril Trawick committed six turnovers for the Hoyas (14-6, 6-3), who stumbled for the second time against the Musketeers immediately after entering the Top 25. Georgetown had just moved in at No. 25 when it lost at Xavier on New Year's Eve, a defeat that pushed the Hoyas out of the polls until this week.
Cutting off passing lanes and effectively using halfcourt traps, Xavier held Georgetown to 4-for-16 shooting and forced 13 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.
Matt Stainbrook added 12 points for the Musketeers.
The loss snapped Georgetown's four-game winning streak and knocked the Hoyas out of first place in the Big East. The Hoyas trail Villanova and Providence (both 5-2) by percentage points.
Sophomore guard Davis started two games last season and re-entered coach Chris Mack's starting five last week against Providence. Davis scored 16 against the Friars and followed up with 25 against DePaul.

Xavier: The five-game road losing streak was the school's longest since an eight-game skid in 1987. The streak was comprised of seven losses to end the 1986-87 season and one more at the start of the 1987-88 season, according to STATS.
Georgetown: The Hoyas made only 13 of 24 free-throw attempts. ... Trawick started despite bruising his right thigh in Saturday's win at Marquette. ... L.J. Peak, who hurt his left ankle in that game, did not start Tuesday but entered five minutes into the game. Copeland got his first career start in Peak's place. ... The 16 points were the fewest in a half for the Hoyas since they also scored 16 vs. Tennessee in the 2012-13 season.
