LOS ANGELES -- Evan Payne scored 23 points from the bench, leading Loyola Marymount to a 76-66 victory over Southeast Missouri State on Friday in the season opener for both teams.

Ayodeji Egbeyemi and Matt Hayes had 13 points each and Marin Mornar added 10 points and four rebounds for the Lions. The team sank 53 percent from the field and 78 percent from three-point range.

LMU went up 40-34 on a dunk and a jumper by Payne in the final 37 seconds of the first period.

Egbeyemi hit a jumper and Hayes sank a 3 to start the second and the Lions were up 45-34. The Redhawks tied it 49-49 with an Isaiah Jones 3-pointer and then went ahead, 53-51, on a Nino Johnson layup with just under 11 minutes to play.

But the Lions soon pulled away with David Humphries, Payne, Mornar and Hayes hitting from the field and from the line.
