CHICAGO -- Montel James was 7 of 10 from the field with 19 points and eight rebounds on Friday night, and Loyola of Chicago opened the season with a 71-58 win over Division II Rockhurst.

Loyola took the lead for good on back-to-back dunks by Christian Thomas and James to start the second half and went on to score 13 straight points for a 42-30 lead.

Milton Doyle chipped in with 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals and the Ramblers were never challenged after their early second-half run.

The Hawks outrebounded Loyola 41-31, but couldn't overcome 20-of-61 shooting (32.8 percent) and 14 turnovers. Rockhurst never trailed in the first half and led by as much as seven.

Dominique Washington made 2 of 3 from 3-point range and led the Hawks with 10 points.
