CHENEY, Wash. -- Venky Jois scored 22 points to lead Eastern Washington past Texas Southern 86-62 on Friday in the opener for both teams.

Tyler Harvey added 21 points for the Eagles. Jois shot 11 for 18 from the field and had seven rebounds.

Tonnie Collier led Texas Southern with 23 points and Chris Thomas had 16 points and eight rebounds.

Eastern Washington led 32-30 at halftime. The Eagles went on a 27-6 run to open the second half, capped by Harvey's 3-pointer, to take a 59-36 lead with 10:36 left. They extended the lead to 73-43 with 6:47 remaining.

The Eagles shot 50 percent from the field while Texas Southern was held to 30 percent.
