FORT WORTH, Texas -- Initially, TCU's Kyan Anderson thought Mississippi Valley State planned to trap and pressure him to try to slow him down. Then, just 31 seconds into the game, Anderson's jumper swished, as did his next two shots, both 3-point attempts.
"When I freed up, it seemed like, `Ok. If they're going to leave me this open, I'm going to shoot it," Anderson said. "They never got out to me quick enough, I guess."
Anderson scored 19 points in just 12 minutes as TCU doubled up on MVSU 106-53 on Monday.
Anderson hit 7 of 9 shots from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. He scored 14 of the game's first 20 points in just 6 1/2 minutes as TCU put away the Delta Devils quickly.
Anderson's self-diagnosis of how he missed those two shots? "I just didn't square up," he said.
The Horned Frogs went on a 20-0 run early on for a 26-5 lead. TCU shot 68.8 percent in the first half en route to a 60-20 halftime lead. The 60 points tie the TCU-Grambling State game on Dec. 30, 2002, for the ninth-most first-half points in school history. Meanwhile, Mississippi Valley State (0-4) shot 20 percent in the first half.
"It's not about any individual, it's about being ready to play regardless of who you play, where you play and when you play," TCU coach Trent Johnston said. "I thought for the most part everybody was ready to play, and we showed a respect for competition. Obviously, we were bigger, stronger, faster, all those things, but the way we came out played and shared the ball, the things of that nature, was good."
Devonta Abron scored 14 points for TCU. Link Kabadyundi added 12 and Hudson Price 11 for the Frogs, which started the season 4-0 for the first time since the 2007-2008 season.
TCU scored 100-plus in regulation for the first time since Nov. 14, 2011, against Austin College, a 103-45 win. The Frogs' 106 points were the most since a 108-99 triple overtime win over Texas State on Nov. 24, 2009. At one point in the second half, TCU had more blocked shots (11) than the Delta Devils had field goals (nine).
Jordan Washington, DeAngelo Priar and Tyler Corley, who averaged a combined 37.0 points per game going into the contest, scored 23 points altogether.

TCU: Anderson needed only two points to surpass Michael Strickland for No. 15 all-time in career points for TCU, but with 19 he passed Strickland (1990-92), Kevin Langford (2007-09) and Marquise Gainous (1999-2000). Anderson is now 13th all-time in scoring with 1,235 points.
Mississippi Valley State: The Delta Devils have yet to play a home game, and they won't until December 20 when they host North Carolina Central. After traveling to Indiana, Mississippi State and Tulane, MVSU is in the midst of a Texas road swing with games against TCU and North Texas before a tournament in Corpus Christi, Texas.

BEEN A WHILE
TCU hasn't started the season 5-0 since the 1997-98 season, but Anderson wants to put the brakes on anyone talking about that just yet. "We know we still have a couple of tough games ahead of us to test where we're at. . I'm going to enforce it to these guys not to get comfortable at all, especially with what we have ahead of us."
BETTER ON THE BOARDS
The Frogs grabbed a season-high 52 rebounds and had 45-plus rebounds for the third time in four games to start the season. TCU averaged 29.9 rebounds per game last season, and the Frogs had only had two games where they finished with 40 or more rebounds (40 vs. Texas Southern and 41 vs. Grambling State).
