MALIBU, Calif. -- Jared Brownridge scored a career-high 38 point while setting a pair of Santa Clara freshmen records in an 86-78 win over Pepperdine on Saturday night.
Brownridge has now scored more points (523) and made more 3-point shots (87) than any other freshman in Santa Clara (13-18, 6-12 West Coast Conference) history. He finished the game 12 of 22 from the field, 7 of 9 from 3-point range and 7 of 8 from the free throw line, adding seven rebounds and two steals.
Brandon Clark scored 18 to go along with eight assists while Jerry Brown chipped in with 11 points for the Broncos.
Santa Clara took a 47-31 lead into the break, closing the first half on a 20-6 run in which Brownridge hit four 3s.
Pepperdine (15-15, 8-10) pulled within 75-69, but the Broncos made 11 of 12 free throws in the final 1:23 to seal the win.
