Coaches can now pick up their smartphones without trepidation.Starting Friday, Division I men's basketball coaches will be able to send unlimited texts and make unlimited calls to recruits who have w... Read full story
Yes, the top level recruits will get the majority of the attention. Who this rule change helps most is the mid level player who is seaching for a a program that fits. Having the opportunity to connect with coaches more often will provide the student athlete more exposure to various programs, thus allowing them to make a more informed decision on where they will spend their next four years. 320 Days ago

Good for coaches, bad for students. Being a college prof., I know how distracting and addictive texting can be. Turns many into "zombies. This is not what these kids need. I guess more Zombies is what the NCAA wants. 333 Days ago

Well these recruits can rely on about 500 texts a day now. I'm sure most will turn off their phones. 333 Days ago

This is interesting. As student athletes we had to vote on this issue within our athletic department so they could see how we all felt. We voted a unanimous no. I wonder how other schools voted? 333 Days ago

Yes, unlimited calls from recruiters can be total overload to a recruit. So the simple solution is to add a rule that the recruiter must stop at the request of the recruit. As long as the recruiter includes his or her own contact info in the initial contact, then the recruit can easily contact to reopen communication. 333 Days ago

The problem with this it is apparently this is a wide spread problem why punish so harshly if it wasn't that big a deal and your gonna ok the practice eventually. It isn't like the NCAA suddenly said hey recruits and coaches are texting "REALLY!!" OK lets make that OK to do 329 Days ago

As an IU fan, I'm still glad he's gone.He knew the rules then; and his graduation rate at OU should have kept him from IU in the first place. Knight sat players who missed class, even starters. 334 Days ago

I kind of feel sorry for the recruits. They are already bombarded with recruiting offers and attempts to stay in contact,... now with this deregulation it will only be 100x worse.
Personally if it were me in that situation, I would not have a cell phone to be texted to, disconnect the phone and have some peace of mind as I finish high school and take the time to do my own looking into the college programs,... 335 Days ago

then you haven't looked hard enough, while unlimited plans are more common now,... many can charge by the text incoming or outgoing, and many have limited hours. 335 Days ago
