Derrick Rose out vs. Golden State

NBA, Chicago Bulls, Golden State Warriors

SAN FRANCISCO -- Because of a sprained ankle, Bulls point guard Derrick Rose did not play Friday night when Chicago faced the Golden State Warriors.

"Not yet," Rose said after Friday's shootaround. "Big game tonight. Of course I would love to play in it, but I got to be smart about what I have going on and deal with the reality."

Rose, who hit the game-winner in an overtime thriller against the Warriors in Oakland last season, said "it's very hard" to miss a game against the defending NBA champions. Rose hopes that he will be able to play Tuesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers.

"I got a couple days really to move around," said Rose, who will miss his second straight game. "Really test it before I get back out there on the court. I feel like my body's a little bit different where if I'm not close to 100 percent I overthink a lot of things and overcompensate on a lot of things, but it comes along with just my body type."

Rose acknowledged that all the previous injuries he has endured make him even more conscious of when his body isn't feeling as well as it should. He wants to be cautious in deciding when to return to the floor.

"If I was to go out there and play, I wouldn't be playing the game that I normally play," Rose said. "It would be, I think, half of what I could do on the court, and playing against [the Warriors], that's not what I want to do."

The Bulls will also be without backup point guard Aaron Brooks, who suffered a left hamstring injury in Wednesday night's win over the Phoenix Suns.

Veteran Kirk Hinrich is expected to start in Rose's place, but coach Fred Hoiberg said Hinrich has been on a minutes limit of around 20 per game as he recovers from a toe injury. E'Twaun Moore is expected to play big minutes, and Hoiberg didn't rule out All-Star swingman Jimmy Butler bringing the ball up the floor as well.

Rose was able to take some jumpers with his teammates as the shootaround ended, but Hoiberg said Rose still isn't able to do enough to get back to game action.

"He went through about half," Hoiberg said. "Did the initial warm-up, got some shots up with the guys, but once we got moving, side-to-side movement is still bothering him."

Rose also noted that his double-vision problems remain. He has been having vision issues since fracturing his left orbital in the Bulls' first training camp practice.

"The frustrating thing about it is the last time I played [against the Pacers] I had a good game, kind of build off good games, and for me not to have the opportunity to play because of an ankle injury, that's the only frustrating thing about it, but it's reality," Rose said. "I have to deal with it. And I'll be back soon."
