Garnett signs contract with Timberwolves

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Timberwolves president and coach Flip Saunders says he plans to start Kevin Garnett next season and believes he can still make a significant impact at age 39.

Garnett signed his two-year, $16 million contract on Friday. Saunders says he expects the franchise icon to not only be a leader in practice and off the court, but also to play well when he's on it.

Saunders says Garnett plans to play about 20 minutes per game and will likely be able to play some back-to-backs. He says Garnett has been working out hard this summer to prepare his body for another run.

In a statement issued through the team, Garnett says he "can't wait to build something special with this group of guys."
