Report: Raymond Felton to exercise option for final year on deal

NBA, Dallas Mavericks

Raymond Felton will exercise his option for the final year on his contract, he and his representative have told the Dallas Mavericks, The Dallas Morning News reported, citing several sources.

Felton has until June 23 to submit the paperwork and make the move official, according to the newspaper.

Felton arrived in Dallas last summer as the tax the Mavs had to pay to get center Tyson Chandler from the New York Knicks. He suffered a serious high ankle sprain in the second preseason game and was suspended for the first four games of the season after pleading guilty to gun charges in New York.

The veteran point guard, who was a starter for most of his first nine seasons in the NBA, played limited minutes after his return from the suspension and injury until pressed into action by injuries to Rajon Rondo, Monta Ellis and J.J. Barea.

Felton, 30, the fifth overall pick in 2005, averaged 3.7 points and 1.4 assists in 9.7 minutes per game during the regular season.

The Mavericks were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Houston Rockets.

Information from ESPN.com's Tim MacMahon was used in this report.
