Blazers' LaMarcus Aldridge undergoes surgery on left thumb

NBA, Portland Trail Blazers

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge had surgery Monday to repair a ligament in his left thumb.

The team said in a statement that Aldridge is expected to be able to return to basketball activity in about eight weeks.

Unless he signs an extension with the Blazers, Aldridge will become a free agent this offseason. He expressed his love for the only NBA team he's played for after the Blazers were eliminated in five games by the Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs.

Aldridge, a four-time All-Star, averaged 23.4 points and 10.2 rebounds during the regular season, playing with the injured thumb for part of that time. He averaged 21.8 points and 11.2 rebounds in the playoffs.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
