Nets to sign Thomas Robinson

NBA, Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets have agreed to terms with former lottery pick Thomas Robinson on a 10-day contract, sources told ESPN.com on Monday.

The 23-year-old power forward confirmed the news on Twitter.

The deal cannot yet become official because Robinson has to clear waivers first. He was waived by the Denver Nuggets after they acquired him in the Arron Afflalo trade.

The 6-foot-10 Robinson was one of three players -- Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist being the others -- that the Nets coveted in the 2012 NBA draft.

In fact, the Nets put a top-three protection on their 2012 first-rounder, which they sent to Portland in exchange for Gerald Wallace.

But the pingpong balls didn't fall their way. The Blazers got the pick -- which fell at No. 6 -- and took Damian Lillard.

Robinson went at No. 5 to Sacramento, and he has failed to live up to his draft status since. But he is still young, so this is a low-risk move for Brooklyn to make.

Robinson is averaging 4.6 points and 4.4 rebounds in 172 career games.
