AP source: Bucks talking to Kenyon Martin, could sign vet

The Milwaukee Bucks are in talks to sign veteran forward Kenyon Martin, a person familiar with the discussions said Thursday.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to speak about the discussions. Martin could be signed as soon as Friday.

Milwaukee hosts Minnesota on Friday night. The Bucks would have to make a corresponding roster move to add Martin.

The forward on Twitter made it seem as if was a done deal. Martin said he was "excited to be back" and thanked the Bucks for the opportunity.

ESPN first reported the potential signing.

The 37-year-old Martin played 32 games last season for the New York Knicks before becoming a free agent. He worked out for the Bucks last week.

"We're just looking to see how we can make this team better," coach Jason Kidd said then when asked about the workout.

Kidd, a former All-Star point guard, played with Martin in New Jersey. They helped the Nets advance to the NBA Finals in 2002 and 2003.

Martin has averaged 12.5 points and 6.9 rebounds over 14 seasons. He could help a depleted frontcourt after the Bucks lost rookie Jabari Parker to a season-ending left knee injury last month.

Forward Ersan Ilyasova and center Larry Sanders have each missed the last eight games. Ilyasova is recovering from a concussion, while Sanders is out for personal reasons.
