Nets' Brook Lopez has back strain

NBA, Brooklyn Nets

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez will miss at least the next four games after an MRI taken Sunday revealed that he has a lower back strain.

The team said that Lopez will be re-evaluated in one week.

It is unclear how Lopez injured his back. Nets trainer Tim Walsh told coach Lionel Hollins before Sunday's practice that Lopez would need to undergo the MRI.

Lopez has had a history of injuries throughout his career -- mostly to his foot. Since 2011-12, he has missed 136 games.

Lopez, 26, is averaging 16.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks this season.

With Lopez out, the Nets could consider going small, moving Kevin Garnett to center and playing someone like Mirza Teletovic at stretch forward.

The Nets face the Cleveland Cavaliers Monday night at Barclays Center. Swingman Joe Johnson is probable for the game after missing Sunday's practice due to a stomach virus.
