Heat hold open scrimmage, as new era begins

MIAMI -- The new Eastern Conference championship banner was already swaying. Dwyane Wade got MVP chants from fans again. Former rivals like Danny Granger and Luol Deng were warmly welcomed.

With that, the new chapter of Miami Heat basketball went on public display for the first time Wednesday night.

The Heat held their annual open scrimmage for fans, simulating a game and combining the program with a tribute to breast cancer survivors. There was nary a mention of LeBron James, who left Miami for Cleveland as a free agent over the summer.

Miami and Cleveland will play a preseason matchup in Rio de Janeiro on Oct. 11.
