Knicks should match offer for Lin
ESPN Insider
July 17, 2012

Am I missing the part where someone with real basketball knowledge points out that Lin in reality isn't anything more than an average player? Oh, right. This is ESPN...

Larry Coon is an ESPN Insider. After reading this article, I believe he may also be one of Chris Broussard's sources.

am I missing something here? Or is LIn the second coming of Jose Calederon? Wooopeee doooo. Houston is dumb for signing him, the Knicks are smart for passing. This guy is, at best, a 6 million a year player. I've watched him play. He's good, but not "ERMAGHERD, THERS KIRD IRS ERSOME!" good. Knicks are better off with Felton, who just needs to find a home and a role. And that role is feeding the beast that is Melo. Lin is going to suck in Houston. You heard it here first.

if the knicks were to trade or waive lin in the summer before the 3rd year of the extension kicks in the knicks could erase all or part of lin's 3rd year salary... it would be better to match and put on the thinking cap later so you can get something for lin rather than let him go for nothing... i would not suggest this for every team...however, for the knicks this is the right call...

I'm convinced based upon how these people keep bringing up the Miami game as "exposing" Jeremy Lin that the Knicks hire people to pose as Knicks fans and post on these message boards. Nobody wants to talk about how a 23 year old free agent rookie was struggling being the most famous athlete in the world, playing in the media capital of the world and facing Lebron James and Dwayne Wade and the Heat on National TV. We've seen Lebron struggle under huge expectations but nobody wants to give Lin a break. I feel for Lin as I think he just wants to be a regular basketball player but either has to be a superstar or a bust with nothing in between.

First off, the Knicks don't have a problem putting butts in the seats. Secondly , why would you pay an exorbitant luxury tax for Lin ( at 14.5 million for that last year) when you could try to get Chris Paul for , Approximately $ 17.5 million. Lin is a nice player, Second tier starting PG or good bench PG. Chris Paul is a SUPERSTAR

How would the Knicks get Chris Paul? They have no room in their salary cap. They basically can only overpay the players they have.

Bums don't put people in seats .. What happens when he is back on the bench because of his endless turnovers, How much money will he be generating then ? If he wants to be a Knick we will see him in 3 years when he has proved himself with the Rockets . People say how he's only 23 and his potential is amazing well there are Veterans in the league that are 23 and don't make 14 Mill . Let's not have a Chris Childs, Charlie Ward pay day here . The Knicks have been getting robbed on contracts for years I am so glad to see them finally smarten up .

this is definitely the smartest, most well written article over the whole Lin free agency saga I have read. Kudos to you Larry Coon. Now just forward this to James Dolan and let the Linsanity continue!!!

Lin played real well for a while and then crumbled once a real defence faced him (Miami - regular season). Forget the 3rd year but paying him 5 mil and above for the first 2 years is beyond stupid. Rockets are not going anywhere. I don't think that's even debatable. Chase B is the brightest thing they got. Just a horrible offer. Lin will live under the pressure of living up to his hype for 3 EXPENSIVE years. Bad deal. Also Felton sucks. Kidd will start after 2 weeks
