The people running the Nets did more to bring Dwight Howard to Brooklyn than the people running the borough did to keep the Dodgers there more than a half-century back. They offered Orlando everythin...

Blame Jordan for it. He was the first me-guy (as we know them today). Before him it was all about the team

#NetsNation will still be a force next Nba season. I believe eventually Howard will play for Brooklyn. Trade deadline???

Did Howard offer a reason why he opted in for the final year of his contract? That never did make any sense to me.

ORLANDO SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKEN UP THE TEAM THAT WAS ONE ALLIOOP (SPELLING?) FROM WINNING A CHAMPIONSHIP AGAINST THE LAKERS IN THE FIRST PLACE!! IF THEY HADNT MADE SOME STUPID TRADEs IN THE 2 YEARS TO FOLLOW THEY MIGHT HAVE HAD ENOUGH CAP SPACE TO BUILD A SUPERPOWER OF THEIR OWN BY NOW!!

First of all, the Caps Lock key is the one on the middle left of your keyboard. You should consider turning it off. Secondly, the Magic lost in 5 games. They weren't one play short of winning anything.

Howard has all the makings of a guy who desperately wants to be liked by everyone while still getting exactly what he wants. What a fairy tale he lives in. No matter how rich or powerful you are that never happens for anyone. The bottom line is that O'Connor is right: Howard was never ending up in Brooklyn once he signed that extension. It made no sense at the time and somehow even less now. The Magic aren't interested in building around a center who averages 5 rebounds per game and costs $12+ per year no matter how talented offensively he may be. The Magic have to make sure they get the most value for Howard, regardless of what that may mean for the upcoming season. If the Magic want to eventually do the deal with the Nets and they feel that is the only offer, they can do that at the trade deadline and it will cost them nothing to do that. The Magic have all the leverage and there isn't anything Howard or the Nets can do about that.

The real question/story is WHY Howard signed that extension last year. The media should be trying to get at the heart of that decision. (I bet Otis might have some input)

Howard used to be a great player and a nice guy. Now he is just a great player with a bulging ego.

I already cringe a having to put up with fans of a 30-52 Nets team whining about how they would have won a championship if they only had Howard, when they probably would have actually ended up with a 31-51 record with him.

Rob Hennigan's job isn't to make the Nets a championship contender AND it's not necessarily to make Dwight Howard happy by giving him what he wants AND it's not his job to make the NY media happy to have a big story. It's his job to make the Magic the best team they can be...PERIOD. The deal that was on the table with the Nets didn't come close to making the Magic better and thats why it didn't happen...thankfully.

Not only that, it would have created another superteam that the Magic would have never had any chance to beat over the next five years. The ultimate goal is to win a title so even if the trade helped them (which it didn't), it would do little good if it makes another team a lot better in the process.

How funny this line was : " Howard has surpassed James as a villain, not as a ballplayer. " While I agree Howard is a villain. Comparing to Lebon, he is still a minor villain. Lebon is still the biggest villain. I'm not a Clevelander, but I used to like to watch Lebon in CAVS. But when someone like him to trash his own mother hometown in a million peope watched National TV. That made me sick.. puke... Lebon is the biggest villain in NBA history. No question about it , no question...

Because he decided to play out his contract without making stupid trade demands and hold 2 or more franchises hostage??? You have a real screwed up definition of villain!!

It is clear why Howard took the option year... because if he walked he was costing himself a boatload of money. He wanted to stay on for a sign-and-trade to maximize his money and years. He is still in Orlando because of his own greed, and it serves him right.

He thought he could bully his way to get exactly what he wanted. Say what you want about LeBron at least he took less money to go where he wanted to go instead of forcing the Cavs to do things his way.

Wow... a lot of P.O'd people out there because the Magic didn't want all the Nets scubs for a top 5 player in the league. Yeah, Howard was an idiot for opting into his contract if he really knew he wasn't going to stay with the Magic. I think it's good that the new Magic GM stood his ground and didn't give the Nets and Howard exactly what they wanted.
