NEW YORK -- The New York Yankees are making Johan Santana quickly forget his no-hitter. The Yankees hit three consecutive home runs in the third inning Friday night against the New York Mets ace, who was making his first start since no-hitting the St. Louis Cardinals a week ago. Santana's bid for consecutive no-hitters ended with none out in the second inning when he gave up a two-run homer to Robinson Cano. That followed a leadoff walk to Alex Rodriguez. The Yankees struck with the long ball again in the third inning. With two outs and Rodriguez on first after a single, Cano, Nick Swisher and Andruw Jones hit back-to-back-to-back home runs. Santana was lifted after the fifth inning and the Mets trailing 6-0. He allowed six runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking one. Santana threw 86 pitches. After the first no-hitter in Mets history, manager Terry Collins gave Santana two extra days rest to protect his surgically repaired left shoulder. Johnny Vander Meer remains the only major leaguer to throw consecutive no-hitters, accomplishing the feat in 1938 with Cincinnati. Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda didn't allowed a hit Friday night until a two-out double by Omar Quintanilla in the sixth inning. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
