Teixeira out of Yankees' lineup, CT scan on foot negative

NEW YORK -- Mark Teixeira is out of the New York Yankees' lineup because of a sore left foot.

Rob Refsnyder is set to start in Teixeira's place at first base and bat eighth Sunday night against Boston left-hander David Price.

The slumping Teixeira fouled a ball off his foot in the fourth inning of Saturday's loss to the Red Sox. He winced in pain and hobbled around as a trainer came out to check him, but finished the game. X-rays were negative, and so was a CT scan Sunday.

The oft-injured Teixeira, 36, was batting .186 with seven home runs and 20 RBI in 63 games during the final season of his $180 million, eight-year contract. The switch-hitter spent time on the disabled list last month with torn cartilage in his right knee.

Teixeira fouled a ball off his right shin last Aug. 17, essentially ending his productive 2015 season. He appeared in two more games before tests in September revealed a fracture.
