ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton has had reconstruction surgery of the ACL in his left knee.
Hamilton, who was already out of the season, had the extensive surgery Wednesday in Houston. The Rangers said Dr. Walt Lowe also repaired meniscus and articular cartilage in that knee.
It was the third time in 10 months the 35-year-old Hamilton had surgery on his left knee. He had tried cortisone shots along with a stem cell and platelet-rich plasma injection during spring training, but played in one game for Double-A Frisco on April 30 before being recalled from his rehab assignment.
Hamilton played only 50 games last season after being traded back to Texas from the Los Angeles Angels when he was coming back from shoulder surgery.
