Pirates' Ryan Vogelsong makes clubhouse appearance

MLB, Pittsburgh Pirates

Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Ryan Vogelsong returned to the clubhouse Tuesday for the first time since being hit in the face by a pitch May 23.

The right-hander underwent surgery to repair multiple facial fractures June 2.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Vogelsong had a bandage across his nose and had visible swelling and bruises around his eyes.

He met with the training staff, and the newspaper reported that the plan is for him to rehab with the team.

A pitch from Colorado's Jordan Lyles struck Vogelsong in the face. Vogelsong was taken by ambulance from the park to the hospital.

Vogelsong is 1-1 with a 3.74 ERA in 12 games this season, including two starts.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
