Reds' Ross Ohlendorf appeals 3-game suspension for throwing at David Freese

PHILADELPHIA -- Cincinnati Reds pitcher Ross Ohlendorf was suspended three games by Major League Baseball on Friday for throwing at Pittsburgh's David Freese this week after warnings had been issued.

Ohlendorf also was fined. He appealed the penalties, and can pitch until there is a final resolution. Ohlendorf didn't pitch in a 3-2 loss at Philadelphia on Friday night.

"I didn't do it on purpose," Ohlendorf said. "It wasn't intentional."

Reds manager Bryan Price was suspended one game and fined.

"We don't go out there to try to hit people, because in turn your guys start to get hit," Price said.

Ohlendorf was ejected after hitting Freese in the ninth inning Wednesday night at Cincinnati. The Pirates won 5-4 in a game in which four Pirates batters were hit and two Reds were plunked, continuing the recent bad blood between the teams.
