NEW AT WRIGLEY
John Lackey makes his first start at Wrigley Field as a member of the Chicago Cubs. The 37-year-old joined the Cubs at the right time -- Wrigley's home locker room was revamped for this season, tripling the size of the once-cramped quarters. The new clubhouse looks more like a night club and also has new and larger video rooms, strength and conditioning areas and rehabilitation facilities.
MISSING THE `WIN' IN TWINS
Minnesota is 0-7 and looks to end its skid after an off day Tuesday. The Twins are the first team to lose its first seven games since the Houston Astros in 2010, and strikeouts have been a big reason why -- Minnesota has punched out a ML-leading 79 times, more than its hits (51) and walks (21) combined.
GOOD SHOT
The NBA's Warriors will try for their record 73rd victory, but star Stephen Curry is going in fresh off a loss to Angels reliever Joe Smith. The right-hander beat Curry in a good-natured game of PIG on Tuesday with a backward free throw and a left-handed 3-pointer. "That was fun. I loved it," a giddy Smith said. "I'm not that bad. I ain't that good either. Sometimes a little bit of luck, a lot bit of luck."
BRUISED BUT FINE
Giants catcher Buster Posey should be back in the lineup after not starting Tuesday because of a bruised left foot. "He bruised it pretty good," manager Bruce Bochy said. "It is pretty sore and he needed the break." Posey is hitting .391 after the first week of the season. San Francisco actually didn't miss him much, with backup Trevor Brown hitting a pair of two-run homers in his absence.
BATTERED BUCCO
Pirates left-hander Francisco Liriano was scratched from his scheduled start with right hamstring discomfort and Pittsburgh says he's day to day. Ryan Vogelsong will start in his place when the Pirates host the Tigers.
