Tigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez to make spring debut Monday

Detroit Tigers right-hander Anibal Sanchez, who was shut down on Feb. 22 with triceps inflammation, will make his spring debut Monday.

Sanchez, who missed the last month and a half of last season with shoulder issues, threw 45 pitches Wednesday in a simulated game.

"He looked good," manager Brad Ausmus told reporters. "He looked sharp."

Sanchez is scheduled for three spring starts, but may need one or two other sessions before he fully regains his stamina, so it remains to be seen when his first start of the regular season will come.

He went 10-10 with a 4.99 ERA and 138 strikeouts while giving up an AL-worst 29 home runs last season.

The Tigers won't need a fifth starter until the second week of the season.
