SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Colorado Rockies' veteran utility infielder Daniel Descalso will be out several weeks with a broken bone in his non-throwing hand.
Descalso was hurt Friday when he was hit on the left hand by Tom Gorzelanny's pitch in a win over Cleveland. The team announced Tuesday that an MRI revealed Descalso has an avulsion fracture.
Descalso had played some shortstop with the Rockies, looking to replace Jose Reyes, who's on paid leave while he faces domestic violence charges. Descalso hit .205 in 101 games with Colorado last season and is in the final season of a two-year deal.
Manager Walt Weiss also announced prospect Tyler Anderson will be out several weeks with a strained oblique. The left-hander was scratched from Saturday's start when he felt discomfort during warmups.
