Kendrys Morales leaves game; considered day to day

MLB, Kansas City Royals

CHICAGO -- Kansas City designated hitter Kendrys Morales left the Royals' 6-4 win over the Chicago White Sox with tightness in his left quadriceps.

Morales was lifted in the fifth inning Thursday night after he hustled into third on Salvador Perez's one-out double. He was replaced by Cheslor Cuthbert.

The Royals say it was a precautionary move, and Morales is day to day. Perez also left the game with swelling in his right thumb.

Kansas City, the American League Central champion, was already without outfielders Lorenzo Cain and Alex Rios on Thursday night. Cain had a sore right knee, and Rios was scratched because of a stiff back.

Cain fouled a pitch off his knee in the seventh inning of Wednesday night's victory over the White Sox. An All-Star this season, he is batting .303 with a career-high 16 homers and 71 RBIs in 139 games.

Also, Yost used Ryan Madson in the ninth inning Thursday because he said closer Wade Davis had a bit of a stiff back.

But he said none of the injuries were serious.

"They're very trivial, day to day, probably overly cautious concerns," he said. "I mean, just trying to do the smart thing."
