LEADING OFF: Latos debuts for Dodgers, Leake with Giants

MLB, New York Mets, Washington Nationals, Miami Marlins, San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants, Cincinnati Reds

A look at what's happening all around the major leagues Sunday:

---

HOME, SWEET START: Rookie Noah Syndergaard has gone eight innings in each of his last three home starts, the first Mets pitcher to do that since Al Leiter in 2001. The right-hander nicknamed "Thor" faces Jordan Zimmermann and the NL East-leading Washington Nationals.

MORE HOME COOKING: Jose Fernandez is looking to improve to 16-0 at home in his career with the Miami Marlins when he takes the mound against the San Diego Padres. Fernandez has a 1.17 ERA in 22 career home starts, the lowest through a pitcher's first 22 home starts since 1920.

FROM SOUTH BEACH TO LA LA LAND: RHP Mat Latos makes his debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers, facing the Angels, following a three-team, 13-player trade with Miami and Atlanta that brought him from the Marlins and left-hander Alex Wood from the Braves. Latos is 1-5 with a 3.34 ERA in six previous starts at Dodger Stadium.

NEW ARM BY THE BAY: Mike Leake, acquired in a trade with the Reds, will make his Giants' debut against Texas, replacing 40-year-old Tim Hudson in the rotation. Leake joined the Giants on Friday, the same day the struggling Hudson was put on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder strain. The 27-year-old Leake has allowed only two earned runs winning his last four starts. Hudson, who plans to retire at the end of this season, is 6-8 with a 4.80 ERA and hasn't gone seven innings in a game since June 3.
