Boston places CF Betts on 7-day concussion DL

BOSTON -- The Red Sox have placed center fielder Mookie Betts on the seven-day disabled list for a concussion after he tumbled into Boston's bullpen attempting to make a catch a night earlier.

To take his place on the roster, the club recalled center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. Wednesday from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Betts caught the ball after running from center to right-center. He took two steps before twisting his body and hitting the wall with his lower back, then flipping over and landing in the bullpen. The ball fell out of his glove when he landed.

After a video review, Chicago's Jose Abreu was credited with a two-run homer. The White Sox beat the Red Sox 9-4.

Boston also added Jeff Rutledge to the roster and designated infielder Jemile Weeks for assignment.

Rutledge was acquired from the Los Angeles on Monday when the Red Sox shipped outfielder Shane Victorino to the Angels.
