Marlon Byrd starts rehab assignment; Jon Moscot weighing surgery

MLB, Cincinnati Reds

CINCINNATI -- Reds left fielder Marlon Byrd started a minor league rehab assignment on Wednesday and could be back in Cincinnati's starting lineup over the weekend.

Byrd's right wrist broke when it was hit by a pitch on June 2. He wasn't expected back for a few more weeks, but the bone has healed quicker than expected. The Reds want him to play at least two games in the minors before activating him from the disabled list.

Rookie starter Jon Moscot had more tests on his non-throwing shoulder and may need surgery. He dislocated his left shoulder while trying to tag a runner on Monday in Detroit. Manager Bryan Price said the injury is more severe than initially thought.
