Capuano will go to Yankees' bullpen when Tanaka returns

SEATTLE -- Left-hander Chris Capuano will be the odd-man out of the New York Yankees' rotation when Masahiro Tanaka returns later this week.

New York manager Joe Girardi said Monday that Capuano will go the bullpen when Tanaka rejoins the rotation for the season finale against Seattle on Wednesday.

Capuano is 0-3 with a 6.39 ERA in his three starts. Opponents are hitting .310 against the lefty and he gave up six hits and three earned runs in a season-high 5 1/3 innings last Friday in a loss to Oakland.

Girardi said the decision with Capuano also is an indication of how right-hander Adam Warren has pitched. Warren has made 10 starts and is 3-4 with a 3.75 ERA, with opponents hitting just .239. Warren has lost three of his last four decisions but pitched at least six innings in each start and allowed three earned runs or fewer.
