Indians donating equipment to league following robbery

CLEVELAND -- The Indians are donating new catcher's gear to the Garfield Heights Baseball League after it had some equipment stolen last week.

With help from Louisville Slugger, the major league team will present new protective helmets, chest protectors and shin guards to the league, which had those items robbed from a storage locker. The team will make the donation on Thursday to some of the league's players and coaches. The Indians said one of their players and their mascot will take part in the presentation of the new gear.

The league was in danger of delaying its season because the equipment was stolen, but will now be able to start on time. The Indians said each of the league's five divisions will receive new gear.

Cleveland wraps up a three-game series in Chicago on Thursday before opening a weekend series against Cincinnati.
