CUB SPROUTS
Jon Lester pitches at Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs try for their sixth straight win. A victory over Pittsburgh would give them their best streak since a seven-game run in August 2011. Lester is on a roll, winning three starts in a row after going winless in his first four for his new team. Rookie Kris Bryant is going well, too -- three home runs this week.
THROWBACK KING
Mariners ace Felix Hernandez starts vs. Boston, looking to become the first Seattle pitcher to begin a season 7-0 since Aaron Sele set the franchise record by winning eight straight to open 2001. And Hernandez will take the mound in a throwback uniform -- replicas of the 1946 Seattle Steelheads of the West Coast Negro Baseball League.
HUNTING FOR RUNS
Giants outfielder Hunter Pence is expected to rejoin the World Series champions, who need a boost on offense. Pence's left forearm was broken by a pitch from the Cubs' Corey Black on March 5. He went 5 for 17 with two homers in five games on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento. San Francisco intends to activate him before a night game at Cincinnati.
WELCOME BACK
Diamondbacks rookie Archie Bradley will make his first start since he was hit in the face by a line drive on April 28. He'll pitch in Philadelphia less than a month after suffering a right sinus fracture on a ball struck by Colorado's Carlos Gonzalez. Bradley is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA in four starts for Arizona.
STRUGGLING SOPHOMORE
Reigning NL Rookie of the Year Jacob deGrom has lost three of his last four starts for the Mets, and has gotten hit hard. He's home to face the Brewers -- deGrom is 8-1 with a 1.30 ERA in his last 10 at Citi Field.
